*Please note there was a presenter change and ultimately a date change on the two remaining sessions. Each session will be recorded and shared out if the new dates present a conflict for you.

October 31: Fraternities and Sororities as Civil Society Organizations: Past Roles, Present Actions, and Future Possibilities

Collegiate fraternities and sororities can have civic impacts! The Piazza Center has brought together scholars to synthesize research, asking: what civic roles might fraternities and sororities play? We introduce concepts from the civil society literature and then review historical and contemporary research on fraternities and sororities. We argue that by harnessing the collective passion and energy of its members, it may be possible to positively influence the collective impact of fraternities and sororities on civic issues, social injustices, and their ability to contribute meaningfully to the betterment of communities beyond the campus environment. Join us to discuss practical agendas for scholars, administrators, and leaders.
